Happily never after animation screencaps6/19/2023 There’s a neat animation trick on Haunter in this scene, phasing in and out rapidly as it changes expressions. Ash tries to get Haunter to focus and asks if it will help defeat Sabrina- Haunter is happy to agree. Misty, meanwhile, has grown to like Haunter and calls it cute- though she changes her mind when Haunter gives her an affectionate Lick and paralyses her. Brock is less sure, however, deciding he is allergic to ghosts and staying at length from Haunter. Having enlisted the assistance of Haunter in the previous episode, Ash has made his way back to Saffron City, hoping to use Haunter’s Ghost-type moves to give him an advantage in battle. Writer Junki Takegami gave us the first Gym Battle episode of the series and he wrote the first part of this trilogy of episodes as well, making it fitting that he should book-end the Psychic Showdown by writing the concluding part too. The Sabrina three-parter doesn’t quite have the same feel to it, but you still find yourself wanting to tune in, hoping Ash will have what it takes to defeat his most dangerous foe yet. Anne made for compelling television with a pair of cliff-hangers that practically demanded you tune in next time. More than that, it has multiple stories spanning a number of episodes. Considering its later propensity for breezy, sometimes forgettable “filler” episodes, the Pokémon anime’s first season is comparatively rich in must-see instalments.
